Consider size…

Although there are some UHD flat panel displays up to 110” in size, the common average runs in the 46” to 65” size. In most cases, the Home Theater resides in a dual purpose space, namely your living room. With the exception of purpose-built theater rooms, your equipment and display must inhabit the same area as your furniture, décor and family members. If the real estate provides ample room for a large LCD screen above your fireplace, then that is the right choice given the options. If you can relinquish an entire wall for a front projection screen – even better! However, your wall space may still be salvaged with the use of a drop down or mechanized screen.

Consider light…

Flat panel televisions and front projection systems have different tolerances to ambient light. When you go to a movie theater, you will notice that the lights dim to dark when the feature is about to begin. Aside from illuminated exit signs, there is little else to interfere with the perfect presentation. The same consideration must be observed if you are to deploy a front projection system in your home. As with all equipment, there is certain tolerance within which you can obtain optimal performance, but it is safe to say that a front projector will not look the best with large windows nearby during the day.

Consider location…

Your location can be an important factor in determining the type of video display equipment you choose. Is the TV going to be mounted in a bedroom, or will it be the centerpiece of your entertainment center? Smaller screens tend to be more manageable in smaller locations. Conversely, dedicated entertainment rooms or other spacious areas may accommodate large displays or front projection setups.

Consider use…

Will this system be one where the family gathers for a movie event, or will it be used for a variety of media by different people throughout the day? Most homeowners will not opt to engage a front projection system to catch an afternoon talk-show while going about daily household chores, but any flat panel will suffice for such routines.
